Bicicletas y Tricicletas on the Mayan Riviera

I’m in Mexico for work right now so I’m not getting any cycling in, but I was thrilled to see some of the employees of the resort we’re staying at (the lovely Rosewood Mayakoba) pedaling around. I first spotted one of the coolest hauling bikes I’ve seen, which is actually called a “tricicleta,” or tricycle.

What I find interesting about it is that there are no handlebars—you steer the 3-wheeled vehicle by pushing on either side of the cart in front.

I saw a few of these out, and some old school bikes, too.

Unfortunately there aren’t any for guests to use—the villas and various destinations (beach, spa, restaurant) are pretty spread out so we’re getting shuttled around in electric golf carts. I’m here to make sure the fitness models do all the moves right for the August issue of Prevention magazine. Tough work, I know!

  1. Hope you have great weather there, it sounds like a lot of fun! But getting to ride those bikes would certainly be cool!
